How to create speed dispersion effects in Illustrator

Here are 2 methods for creating speed effects using Adobe Illustrator. The first method uses ‘Mezzotint’ lines, from the ‘effect’, pixelate menu, which creates a grungy rough line effect. 

The other method uses the ‘colour halftone’ effect also from the ‘Pixelate’ menu. You could also use this for general shading by using either the linear or radial gradients.
