Spotify Logo Changes: Before-and-After Evaluation
A practical guide to reviewing Spotify logo changes, preparing before-and-after comparisons, and checking the result across sizes and backgrounds.
Before you start
A logo change evaluation works best when you can compare the same version at the same size, on matching backgrounds, and with clear labels. For Spotify material, use the official brand assets available through the Spotify brand portal rather than a screenshot from a music player, social profile, or video call.
You can perform this review locally in a browser-based logo mockup tool. No Spotify account, audio playback, or external service is required. Keep the original file unchanged and export comparison versions only when you need a shareable record.
Step-by-step instructions
Open the logo mockup or comparison view in your browser. Select the older Spotify logo as the before image, then select the newer logo as the after image. Use PNG or SVG files with a transparent background when available.
Set both images to the same rendered width or height. If the logos have different intrinsic proportions, align them by height and leave horizontal spacing consistent rather than stretching either mark.
Place the before image and after image as separate layers. If you are using a comparison slider, drag the divider to inspect the same portion of each mark. On a touch screen, drag with one finger; on a keyboard, focus the slider and use the arrow keys.
Add a plain label for each side, such as Before and After. Keep labels outside the logo area so they do not change how the mark is perceived.
Review the pair on a light background and then on a dark background. Spotify logo files can include a dark green mark and a white wordmark, so a single background may hide part of the change.
Export the comparison as PNG when you need to share it. If you need to present the result without the interactive slider, use two static panels with the same dimensions.
Check the output
Check that neither logo appears cropped, stretched, or resampled with new colors. At small sizes, confirm that the wordmark remains legible and that the circle mark keeps a visible outline against both tested backgrounds.
- The older and newer versions are the same rendered height.
- Labels are visible but outside the artwork.
- Light and dark background versions both show enough contrast.
- The comparison does not claim a specific release date unless you have verified it from the brand source.
Common problems and next steps
If only one logo is visible, check the layer order or move the comparison divider fully to each side. If the colors shift, your source files may use different color profiles or include a background fill; re-export them with transparency and consistent color settings.
If the wordmark becomes unreadable, increase the panel width instead of enlarging the image beyond its natural resolution. For social or presentation previews, test the exported comparison at display size before sharing.
When you cannot access the official current asset, leave the review as a demonstration and note that the source needs confirmation. Do not redraw or approximate the official logo to fill the gap.
