The logo under discussion

The subject is Punjab National Bank’s corporate identity after Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India were amalgamated into PNB. “The new logo after the merger” means the single surviving PNB mark used for the combined bank, in place of three separate customer-facing logos. It does not, on the evidence in this brief, name a verified redraw, a published construction sheet, or a specific vector file.

This brief supplies no official artwork, colour specification, type treatment, or licensed master file. A path-level before-and-after of strokes, fills, outlines, or font conversion cannot be completed from the query alone. What can be evaluated is which asset is in play, how to tell true vector artwork from a picture of the logo, and what that distinction means for use.

The practical change is consolidation, not a documented geometry rewrite. Until a brand owner releases a master drawing, treat the post-merger lockup as the same trademarked PNB symbol in a new corporate setting: one bank, one mark, withdrawn sister logos. Do not read a press photo, app icon, or “new logo” headline as proof that the paths were redrawn.

Vector artwork, raster previews, and embedded images

A usable logo file for print, signage, or identity work is vector artwork: points, curves, and fills that scale without pixelation. A PNG, JPEG, or screenshot of the PNB mark is a raster preview. An SVG, EPS, or PDF can still be a wrapper around an embedded bitmap. An .ai, .eps, or .svg filename does not establish editable vector paths. Open the file and inspect whether the wheat-ear symbol and lettering are live outlines or a placed image.

  • Confirm objects are paths or outlined type, not a single embedded raster.
  • Check that lettering is converted to outlines or is a specified, licensed font—not a picture of type.
  • Look for a single combined mark versus leftover OBC or UBI artwork still sitting on the artboard.
  • Reject files that only look sharp at screen size; pixelation on enlarge is a raster tell.
  • Treat colour as unspecified unless the file or a brand guide states it; do not sample a compressed preview and call it official.

Download, modification, and trademark

Permission to download a PNB logo is not permission to modify it, recolour it, combine it with another bank’s mark, or use it on goods and communications. The name, symbol, and lockup are trademarks. Absorbed-bank logos remain protected even after they leave the high street. Preparing vector artwork for a client who already has a licence is different from circulating a traced file as if it were a free, editable asset.

What this means if you are preparing the file

Request the current PNB master from the brand owner or an authorised pack. Rebuild from a raster only when that owner has commissioned a reconstruction, and then match the official drawing rather than a news thumbnail. Deliver outlined vectors plus a working file, state whether fonts remain live, and keep the retired OBC and UBI marks out of new lockups unless a specific historical use is authorised.

  • Master format: native vector plus a PDF or EPS with outlined artwork for hand-off.
  • Working format: editable paths only if the licence allows further change.
  • Preview format: PNG or SVG export for screens, labelled as preview, not as the master.
  • Rights note: record who authorised use, and that download or possession is not a modification or merchandising right.
