Mockup A5 Card: What It Shows About Your Vector Logo
What an A5 paper card mockup is, how it differs from other stationery mockups, and what it can and cannot tell you about a vector logo file.

The short answer
An A5 card mockup is a template, usually a layered image file, that shows a logo or layout on a realistic photograph or render of an A5 paper card. A5 is an ISO 216 paper size measuring 148 × 210 mm (about 5.83 × 8.27 inches), half of an A4 sheet. The mockup lets you see how a logo might look at that scale on a physical card. It does not create, verify or replace the vector logo file itself. What you get out of a mockup is a raster preview: a picture of the artwork, not the editable artwork.
How an A5 card mockup differs from other stationery mockups
The main difference is scale and proportion. A business card mockup shows a logo on a small surface where fine detail can disappear. An A5 card gives the logo more room, so it is closer to how the mark will appear on invitations, flyers, postcards, menus, notecards or event cards. That makes it useful for judging spacing, margins and how the logo sits beside text.
| Mockup type | Typical surface | What it helps you judge |
| Business card | Small card | Legibility at small sizes, minimum detail |
| A5 paper card | 148 × 210 mm sheet or card | Placement, margins, balance with headlines and body text |
| Letterhead (A4 or US Letter) | Full sheet | Header placement, overall stationery system |
For US readers, note that A5 is not a standard domestic paper size. The closest common US size is half-letter (5.5 × 8.5 inches), which is slightly wider and shorter. If the finished card will be printed in the US, check whether the printer works in A5 or half-letter, because a layout built for one will not fit the other exactly.
Vector artwork, embedded images and raster previews
This distinction matters most when you use a mockup with a logo. Many mockup templates use a placeholder layer, such as a smart object in layered image editors, where you insert your design. You can often place vector content in that layer, and the placed content may keep its vector data inside the template file. The scene around it, including paper texture, lighting, shadows and perspective, is raster. When the mockup is exported as a JPG or PNG, the result is entirely raster.
- Vector artwork: shapes defined by paths that scale without quality loss. This is what a print-ready logo file should contain.
- Embedded raster image: a pixel-based picture placed inside a file, even a file with a vector format extension. It will blur or pixelate if enlarged.
- Raster preview: an exported mockup image that shows the logo but cannot be edited as artwork.
A mockup that looks sharp does not prove the source logo is vector. A file name or extension such as .ai, .eps, .svg or .pdf also does not prove it, because these formats can hold embedded raster images. To confirm editable vector paths, open the file in a vector editor and check whether the logo elements are selectable paths rather than a single placed image.
What to check when previewing a logo on an A5 card
- Source quality: place the actual vector logo in the template rather than a screenshot or low-resolution export.
- Scale: confirm the logo size on the mockup is realistic for the final printed card.
- Margins and safe area: keep the logo clear of edges that may be trimmed in print.
- Color: treat the on-screen mockup as an approximation. Print color depends on the color mode, paper stock and printer, which a mockup cannot reproduce.
- Orientation: decide whether the card is portrait or landscape before judging the layout.
Permissions: the mockup, the logo and the fonts are separate
Permission to download an A5 mockup template covers the template under its own license terms. It does not grant any rights to the logo you place in it. Likewise, being able to download a logo file does not mean you may modify it, use its fonts or use the trademark commercially. If you are presenting work for a client, use their logo with their approval. Check the mockup license separately, since some templates restrict commercial use or redistribution.
