The short answer

Discord's current wordmark is widely identified as custom lettering derived from Ginto Nord, a wide geometric sans serif from the commercial type foundry Dinamo. It is not simply that font typed out. The letterforms have been adjusted for the logo, so installing Ginto Nord and typing the word will come close but will not reproduce the official artwork exactly.

Two other names come up when people ask which font Discord uses. The older Discord wordmark is commonly matched to a heavy weight of Uni Sans. The app's interface text is a separate system: it was long reported as Whitney and is now a proprietary family called gg sans. Which of these answers your question depends on whether you mean the current logo, the legacy logo or the text inside the app.

Evidence gap: no authoritative brand documentation was supplied for this article. The identifications above reflect what is widely reported by type-identification communities and design press, not a confirmed specification from Discord. Treat them as strong leads and confirm them against Discord's official brand materials before relying on them for production work.

Which Discord typography are you looking at?

Element | Commonly reported typeface | Practical note
Current wordmark | Customized lettering based on Ginto Nord | Modified letterforms; a typed font is only an approximation
Legacy wordmark | Uni Sans, heavy weight | Matches the older logo, not the current one
App interface and body text | gg sans (earlier: Whitney) | Proprietary; not offered as a public download
Logo symbol (the mascot icon) | Not a font | Drawn artwork; obtain it only as a graphic asset

How to tell the versions apart

  • Width and weight: the current wordmark is set in very wide, heavy capitals with a flat, geometric feel; the older wordmark looks more condensed by comparison.
  • Letter construction: compare the round letters (C, O, D) and the R. Small changes in curve tension and terminal shape are where custom lettering departs from the stock font.
  • Context: if the text appears in menus, chat messages or settings screens, you are looking at interface typography rather than the logo.
  • Age of the source: screenshots, fan art and older merchandise often show the legacy wordmark, so check when an image was made before matching it.

A logo wordmark is fixed artwork. Designers often start from a typeface and then redraw spacing, joins and individual glyphs, which makes the final mark unique. Automated font identifiers compare shapes against font libraries, so they tend to return the base typeface or a lookalike, never the customized lettering itself. Use a font match to understand the style or to set supporting text; use official artwork whenever you need the actual logo.

Where to get proper vector artwork

The appropriate source is Discord's own brand or press resource, which is where the company publishes its approved logo files and usage guidelines. Logos downloaded from third-party icon sites, logo aggregators or font-recreation projects may be redrawn, outdated (often the legacy wordmark) or traced from low-resolution images. Their provenance cannot be assumed.

Check any file you obtain rather than trusting its name or extension. An SVG, EPS or PDF can contain true vector paths, but it can also simply wrap an embedded raster image. Open the file in a vector editor and confirm that the letterforms are made of editable paths with clean anchor points rather than a single placed bitmap. A PNG or JPG preview is raster artwork and will blur or pixelate when enlarged.

  • Confirm the file comes from Discord's official brand materials or another identifiable, authorized provider.
  • Check whether it shows the current or the legacy wordmark.
  • Verify that the artwork is outlined vector paths, not an embedded image.
  • Note which color and lockup variants (wordmark only, symbol only, symbol with wordmark) the official kit provides, and use the one that fits your layout instead of rebuilding it.

Permissions: downloading is not the same as using

Three separate rights are involved. Being able to download Discord's logo files does not grant permission to modify the artwork, and neither grants rights to the underlying fonts. The Discord name and logo are trademarks, so their use is governed by the company's brand guidelines, which typically restrict alterations, recoloring and uses that imply endorsement. Ginto is a commercial typeface that requires a license from its foundry, gg sans is proprietary to Discord, and any lookalike or free alternative carries its own license terms. Review each of these before using the logo or matching typography in published or commercial work.

What remains unconfirmed

No supplied source verifies the exact typeface names, the extent of the wordmark customization, the formats and variants in Discord's current brand kit, or the specific terms of its usage policy. Each of these should be checked directly in Discord's official brand guidelines and the relevant font foundries' license documents.
